Questions and Answers
Q1: Why does the paper remain dry even when the cup with paper is submerged in water?
As air in the cup occupies space and cannot escape, water cannot enter the cup to displace the air. Hence, the crushed paper will remain dry.
Q2: The water level in the cup rises slightly. Why is it so?
Air trapped in the cup can be compressed slightly, so some water can enter the inverted cup, causing the water level in the cup to rise slightly.
Q3: The cup must be upright when conducting the experiment, why?
When the cup is slanted, air can escape from the cup, hence some water can enter to displace the air.
