Grades: Nursery – Kindergarten 2
Ages: 4 to 6 years old
Up Down All Around is an eight-part preschool numeracy series that facilitates deep conceptual understanding and mastery of skills in children during their formative years.
Aligned to the Nurturing Early Learners (NEL) framework, this series uses the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) approach and builds on children’s experiences with Maths in daily life, making learning fun and meaningful.
As they develop a strong foundation in Maths, children are better prepared to learn more complex concepts in primary school. The Play-and-Do structure in the book allows children to learn through a series of fun activities and tasks, helping them to stay engaged and retain their learning of Maths.
Teachers can address the learning needs of all ability levels with differentiated resources.

Prepares children well for maths in primary school
Each concept or skill is taught using the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) approach so that pupils develop deep understanding of concepts and are ready for maths in primary school.
Nurtures a love for maths through Play-and-Do structure
Pupils learn when they first explore concepts and skills through an activity, then apply the concepts or skills in a numeracy task to show understanding. Activities allow children to use their hands, look at pictures, listen to sounds and communicate with one another. Tasks can be verbal, written or performance-based, so children remain engaged throughout the lesson.
Increases teachers’ effectiveness in the classroom
Children develop understanding at different rates and benefit from different levels of support. Our materials include resources to provide the support needed. Teachers can use the diagnostic activities and numeracy tasks as an assessment of children’s understanding. Then, they may carry out the available differentiated instruction at using the ideas provided in the Teacher Guide.
