About the Competition

MCE Global Writing Competition 2023 is back! This competition is open globally to all students from 12 to 20 years old looking to challenge their creative writing skills through the use of an Artificial Intelligence writing tool.

With the help of various features on Scribo Literatu, an online writing platform, students get the chance to experience how the use of AI can refine, enhance, and perfect their writing and redefine the way they look at writing assignments.

How to Participate?

Registration

1. Please complete payment of the registration fees via https://www.kalodu.com/products/global-writing-competition-2023.

2. You will receive an automated email from Kalodu with your Scribo login ID and password.
Note: You will be prompted to change your password during your first login.

Login to https://www.literatu.com/mce#/ and start writing!

Submission

1. Upon logging in, you will see 2 writing topics. Please select the correct topic for your submission.

2. Please ensure that you have included the following details in your submission:
a. Name, Grade Level, School Name, Email Address

3. Once you are ready to submit your entry, click “Hand In”.

Registration

Competition Entry Fee: SGD 30

Registration closes on 15 Jan 2024.

You will receive a confirmation email from Kalodu via your registered email. If you do not receive the confirmation email, please check your junk, or spam mailbox.

Write a story about a time when a small act of kindness made a big impact on someone's life.

  • What was that small act of kindness?
  • How did it change the people involved?

Social media has a negative impact on relationships and mental health. Do you agree?

  • What are some social effects of social media?
  • What is its influence on self-esteem, interpersonal connections, and overall well-being?

Senior High School

Write a story about someone who showed compassion to a classmate who was bullied in school.

  • How was the friend bullied?
  • How did the friendship change after the incident?

Technological innovation does more harm than good to the environment. Do you agree?

  • What are some environmental challenges we face today?
  • Can technological advancements address these challenges or cause further degradation to the environment?

University

Write a story that explores the concept of "paying it forward." How can a single act of compassion inspire a chain reaction of kindness?

  • What was the first act of compassion?
  • What was the key reason for the ripple effect?
  • How can a society benefit from the “paying it forward” concept?

Society should prioritise ethical considerations of artificial intelligence over its potential for innovation and progress. Do you agree?

  • What is the relationship between AI development and current regulations?
  • Why is there a need to protect individual rights and societal well-being?

Judging Process

Students will undergo 2 rounds of the competition. Their submission will be graded by our AI writing platform Scribo, and thereafter by our esteemed panel of judges.

Top 3 Global Winners (High School / Senior High School / University)

The top 3 winners for each category will be awarded an Amazon gift voucher worth USD 30 – 100, and a 1-year subscription to Scribo.

Top Country Winners

Top winners from each participating country will be awarded an Amazon gift voucher worth USD20 , and a 6-months subscription to Scribo.

A digital certificate of participation will be awarded to all students.

Terms and Conditions

  1. Marshall Cavendish Education is the organiser of the MCE Global Writing Competition.
  2. All information shared with us will follow Marshall Cavendish Education's data protection and privacy statements.
  3. Winners will be informed via email or social media messenger depending on the information given.
  4. Winners will be selected by the Organiser's panel of judges and the decision is final.
  5. All entries are sent at the risk of the Contestant and in the event that there are technical difficulties experienced arising out of the internet or from any associated equipment or internet security is compromised, the Organiser may at its sole and absolute discretion disqualify the entire entry and shall not accept any liability doing so.
  6. The Prize is as stated and is non-transferable and not-for-sale. No cash alternatives will be offered. If due to circumstances beyond the Organiser’s control, the Organiser is unable to provide the stated Prize or any part thereof, the Organiser reserves the right to substitute the prize with an item of equal or greater value, to be determined at the Organisers’ sole discretion.
  7. Late submission will be automatically void.
  8. The Organiser reserves the right to change the prize of equivalent value as deemed fit.
  9. The Organiser reserves the rights to amend the terms and conditions without prior notice.
