Plenary Session: Education in the 21 Century - Insights from PISA
by Dr. Turner Lam

Education technologies can transform how students learn because they offer them new opportunities to explore complex phenomena and to create digital representations of their ideas. Despite the advantages, students lack foundational skills and attitudes necessary to become active and autonomous users of technology for confronting open-ended, real-world problems. This session aims to provide educators with 2 competencies emphasised in PISA 2025 “Learning in the Digital World”; Self-Regulated Learning & Computational and Scientific Inquiry practices and how MCE resources can assist educators in developing these 2 competencies.

English: Innovative Strategies for Enhancing English Language Teaching in Multilingual Classrooms
By Ms. Marta Sheikh

The workshop begins with an ice-breaker activity to encourage participants to share their teaching philosophies, fostering community and collaboration. In the workshop, educators will: Learn how to tailor instruction to meet diverse learning needs through various teaching Learn how to integrate technology to enhance learners’ engagement and create inclusive lesson plans. Explore techniques for enriching students' linguistic and cultural skills through immersive experiences. Understand the strategies for using assessments as tools for learners’ growth.

The workshop will end with a Wrap-Up and Reflection session, allowing educators to share their insights, reinforcing the significance of continuous professional development and collaboration in creating engaging and supportive learning environments for all leaners.


Math: Problem Solving and The Use of Heuristics

5E Instructional Approach plays an instrumental role in developing critical thinking in a Science classroom. In this session, participants will understand critical thinking and how it can be integrated in a 5E lesson plan through a hands-on activity. After the session, participants will define critical thinking through perspectives & assumptions and how leverage on MCE textbooks to build upon critical thinking in their classrooms.

Brandon Oh

Dr. Brandon Oh

Dr. Brandon Oh holds a Doctorate of Arts in Education and has more than 25 years of experience in the education field. He is an accomplished educator, published author, trainer, and education consultant. His expertise spans curriculum development, content, and teaching methodologies in Mathematics and Science.

Dr. Oh also leads workshops in Mathematics and Science for students, teachers, parents, and editors. In these sessions, he shares pedagogical knowledge, learning theories, and subject content. He emphasizes problem solving as a student-centered approach to master mathematical concepts and advocates for the 5E instructional model, and constructivist inquiry-based learning in Science.


Dr. Turner Lam

Dr. Turner Lam

Dr. Turner Lam pursued doctoral degrees from European Institute of Management & Technology and National Tsing Hua University focusing on STEAM Education. Prior to his doctoral studies, he received a Masters in Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. As an academic, he also spent short stints with College of Education at Harvard and Stanford. Apart from being the Founder and Academic Director to Edu-Aequitas, a research and certification company; he serves as secretary to STEAM Education Association of Singapore (SEAS) where is primary role is to promote international collaboration and best practices in STEM/STEAM Education.


Marta Sheikh

Ms. Marta Sheikh

Ms. Marta Sheikh is an experienced English Language expert from the UK, who has a Masters in Leadership and Education Management as well as TESOL. She has taught English as a First Language extensively to students in India, the Middle East and the UK. In her decades of experience as an English Language educator, she has planned and designed creative curriculums, along with delivering them in the classroom to achieve excellent learning outcomes.
