Singapore, 6 November 2024 – In a collaborative effort to enhance digital competency among K-12 students and educators across the Asia Pacific region, ICDL Asia and Marshall Cavendish Education (MCE) have formalised a partnership agreement through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This partnership aims to leverage Marshall Cavendish Education network to promote ICDL Digital Certification Programmes, focusing on equipping K-12 students and educators with the vital digital skills needed to navigate the 21st century.

The MoU was signed by Mr. Soon Jinn Lim, Head of Commercial and Digital Solutions at Marshall Cavendish Education and Ms. Tina Wu, General Manager of ICDL Asia, at the Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore. The ceremony was witnessed by esteemed dignitaries, including Mr. Leo Clancy, CEO of Enterprise Ireland, Her Excellency Ms. Sarah McGrath, Ambassador of Ireland to Singapore, and Ms. Jayanthi Thevarajah, Head of Education Services ASEAN at Enterprise Ireland, along with other representatives from both organisations.

During the signing ceremony, Ms. Tina, General Manager of ICDL Asia expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “ICDL Asia is honoured to partner with Marshall Cavendish Education in this vital initiative to promote the systematic development of digital skills among K-12 students. By implementing the digital curriculum that is structured and aligned with ICDL international standards, we strongly believe that introducing digital education at an early age will significantly benefit young learners and enhance their prospects throughout their educational journey and future success.”

Mr. Soon Jinn Lim, Head of Commercial and Digital Solutions of Marshall Cavendish Education highlighted the significance of this collaboration, stating, “This partnership creates diverse opportunities to increase the digital literacy rate across the region. Marshall Cavendish Education (MCE) is excited to take this step forward with ICDL Asia to provide a platform for learners to achieve more accreditation, enabling them to address the challenges of the 21st century.”

MCE’s mission is to nurture the joy of learning and build the right foundations for lifelong education. Digital literacy is a crucial component of this mission, enabling learners to find, evaluate, and compose clear information across various digital platforms. Through this partnership, MCE will offer tailored digital literacy courses and certification assessments in the Asia Pacific, equipping students with the necessary skills to thrive in a digital world.

Following the MoU signing, MCE plans to kickstart a digital literacy curriculum for Grades 1 to 6 to prepare students for ICDL digital certification from Grades 4 to 6. Three ICDL modules, namely the Computer & Online Essential module, Application Essentials module and Computing module, have also been selected for the pilot assessment phase, with further customisations planned to meet diverse educational needs.
